RuneScape transports players into a world of fantasy and magic as they explore Gielenor, and epic and ancient world of myths, magic and monsters. This fantasy browser-based MMORPG offers a free to play experience where players can create their own unique character from a diverse range of races and trainable skills as they explore a wide range of amazing locations and environments in a truly sandbox adventure. Whether playing solo and completing the various Quests and Challenges, hunting Achievements and playing mini games or joining up with a Clan to work together with a wider group of people for completing quests, taking on Dungeon Raids fighting alongside them in PVP.
The various races that players can choose from in game range from the popular staples of fantasy such as Dwarves, Elves and Humans, to the raw unique races to this particular world such as the Mahjarrat, TzHaar or… Monkeys. Whilst race will largely determine your cosmetic customisation, a character is only the some of their skills and it is RuneScape’s Skill system that allows the widest level of character customisation giving players the freedom to create the types of character they want to play. Choosing from a list of 26 different skills players will increase those skills that they directly use, meaning you only ever improve the abilities that you actually want/need based off your preferred gameplay. The skills range from anything from Combat orientated skills such as Attack, Defence, Prayer or Magic, to Crafting based skills like Fletching, Runecrafting and Smithing.
Players can also train up in the unique Dungeoneering skill which is primarily used in the vast multi-floored dungeon of Daemonheim, a relatively recent discovery that has brought madness, terror and adventure to the world. By increasing their Dungeoneering skilled players are able to delve deeper into Demonheim, which in turn brings greater challenges and greater rewards.
PVP is a big part of the game for those players that wish to be involved, for those that like the rush of adrenaline of a potential random combat encounter out in the wilderness whilst questing and they may choose the more dangerous PVP Worlds where players are free to attack each other outside of the safe areas (such as banks) and if killed will suffer full loot consequences were players are able to take any items you had on your person. For those that don’t want the constant threat of combat then they are able to get their fix by participating in the Castle Wars, a combat focused team game where players are tasked with breaching the enemy teams defences with the objectives of capturing their flag whilst simultaneously defending their own Castle and flag. Once an enemy flag is reached the player is then tasked with returning it back to their own flag scoring them a point, the team the most points at the end of the game wins. The game is further improved on by the use of various Equipment items available from the storeroom such as a Climbing rope that can be used to scale Castle walls, a Rock that can be used as ammunition for the catapult and Barricades to block enemy movement.
